In our last article we mentioned how popular blogging has become in the design community. In this post I wanted to showcase 10 well known designers who have used blogs successfully to promote their portfolios and even make profit!
I highly recommend taking a look at each website and looking at their blogs and portfolios to see how they are interconnected. The best way to start bogging yourself it to start researching other successful bloggers!
1. Jeffrey Zeldman of Happy Cog
Jeffrey Zeldman is an internationally known designer and writer, architect of the web standards movement, and founder of Happy Cog. Happy Cog uses blogging to post their latest news and projects on their studio website.
2. Dan Cederholm of SimpleBits
SimpleBits is a popular web design studio founded by designer and author Dan Cederholm that uses blogging to its advantage by posting news and links to useful articles on their site.
3. Steve Smith of Ordered List
Ordered List is the design portfolio of Steven Smith which uses blog engines to post tips, tricks and interesting videos which increase traffic to the website and keeps readers coming back.
5. Jon Phillips of Spyre Studios
Jon Phillips uses a blog on his portfolio website Spyre Studios to increase traffic to his website from social media sites and search engines. He has become such a good blogger he now also runs a popular freelancing blog called Freelance Folder.
6. Collis Ta’eed of Eden
Collis is a web designer and blogger who cofounded a startup with three friends in 2006 called Eden. Eden now consists of several of the most popular design blogs on the internet including FreelanceSwitch and PSDTuts.
7. Jacob Cass of Just Creative Design
Jacob Cass is a graphic designer and blogger who runs Just Creative Design, a successful design blog. His blog is a great way to showcase his portfolio, but also makes revenue itself due to is lage influx of traffic.
8. Shaun Inman of ShauenInman.com
Shaun Inman is a designer and developer living and working out of Chattanooga, Tennessee. His blog has become a portfolio in itself and he is currently managing a new statistics program called Mint.
9. Luc Melgar of Octwelve
Octwelve is the personal blog of web designer,illustrator and blogger Luc Melgar. The blog is a great way for Luc to share tips, interests and showcase her portfolio.
10. Cameron Hunt of Cameron.io
Cameron Hunt is a designer and blogger whos website runs on the blog engine Chyrp. His website has been featured on many gallery websites and has become an inspiration to many designers and bloggers.
